From tea bags to trophies.
Our roots in packaging Our story began in the 1940s, with J. Thomson Packaging Ltd, which served clients throughout central Scotland. The link to today’s business is quirkier than you might expect - one of our most successful products at the time was a printed teabag. Which just goes to prove that printing is in our DNA.
The move into print In the early 1950s, Hamish Thomson took control of his father’s business. He moved quickly to take advantage of the great demand for quality commercial printing, and in 1953 he developed the company’s lithographic printing services. His philosophy still holds true today: continuously re-invest profits - and recruit only the very best people.
Let there be colour Colour arrived in the 1960s - the launch of BBC2 and the Sunday Times Colour Supplement were defining moments in British popular culture. The marketing industries were keen to exploit this new technology, so we transformed our business again, investing in high-quality full-colour printing equipment. It was only right that our name changed to suit; from now on we would be known as J. Thomson Colour Printers.
Today’s company It’s easy to make claims about quality and reputation, but we have the “UK Print Company of the Year” trophies to prove the point. We never lose sight of the principles which built our success from the very beginning - hard work, attentive service and a dedication to producing only the highest quality work.
